What is Assistive Technology (AT) Re-use?
Re-use is the business of reclaiming and redistributing previously owned Assistive Technology (AT) and Durable Medical Equipment (DME), and it ensures that the equipment is being used for the full value of its lifecycle.  Wheelchairs, walkers, communication devices, and hospital beds are examples of commonly donated devices reassigned through California’s AT re-use programs.   AT re-use makes critical medical equipment available to people who otherwise might not be able to afford or access it due to the complexities of today’s insurance market.  AT re-use is “green” in that it is an important form of recycling and keeping medical equipment out of landfills when it still has a useable lifespan.

About the California AT Re-use Coalition:

Our Coalition represents many organizations that promote AT and DME re-use to consumers, businesses and other interested partners. We want to advance re-use to save money for Californians and the environment, making it as common as recycling plastic bottles and soda cans.

Please contact Katie Bullock, katie.bullock@ilsnc.org, or Shannon Coe, shannoncoe@cfilc.org if you have any questions.  You can also learn more about Assistive Technology at http://www.atnet.org/.

The AT Network is dedicated to protecting the rights of our consumers and allowing them to remain independent in the community. If you have a question, concern, or a story to share with us then please don't hesitate to contact us:
