Ergonomics Definition

(www.ergonomics.org.uk) Ergonomics deals with the interaction of technological and work situations with the human being ... toward two main objectives: the most productive use of human capabilities, and the maintenance of human health and well-being. In a phrase, the job must ‘fit the person’ in all respects, and the work situation should not compromise human capabilities and limitations. …. [Ergonomics also involves] designing equipment and work arrangements to improve working posture and ease the load on the body, thus reducing instances of Repetitive Strain Injury/Work Related Upper Limb Disorder.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

specifies what responsibilities employers have to provide an ergonomically safe environment for workers. The web site www.osha.gov/SLTC/ergonomics/index.html provides a wealth of information for both employers and workers to help prevent muskuloskeletal disorders (MSD).

She also uses a Hoyer lift, which hoist her in a harness from her chair to the bathroom or bedroom. The lift is even portable and convenient for easy travel."
